The Philosopher's Stone, billed monthly
Harry Potter had the Philosopherโs Stone. We have the browser-tab version. Naturally, itโs billed annually.
Marc Andreessen
Then it turns thought into a PRD,
a landing page,
a nurture sequence,
a support macro,
and somehow a working prototype while most sprint planning is still a group therapy session where everyone agrees the estimate feels โunsafe.โ
Which is a beautiful sentence until you realize
Extremely normal stuff.
A few โwait, whatโ datapoints:
ย โข OpenAI says ๐๐ฃ๐ง-๐ฑ.๐ฏ-๐๐ผ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐
๐ต๐ฒ๐น๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐๐ต๐ถ๐ฝ ๐ถ๐๐๐ฒ๐น๐ณ, using early versions to debug training and manage deployment. So yes, the software is doing DevOps on its own origin story.
ย โข METR estimates the frontier task-completion time horizon (e.g., the human-task duration where agents hit 50% success) has been doubling about every 196 days (~7 months). Thatโs faster than most companies can migrate a calendar tool.
ย โข Anthropicโs CEO has publicly warned about ๐น๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ด๐ฒ ๐๐ฐ๐ฎ๐น๐ฒ ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ฟ๐-๐น๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐น ๐๐ต๐ถ๐๐ฒ ๐ฐ๐ผ๐น๐น๐ฎ๐ฟ ๐ท๐ผ๐ฏ ๐ฑ๐ถ๐๐ฟ๐๐ฝ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป in the next 1 to 5 years.
So what becomes valuable when everybody has access to magic?
๐ฃ๐ฎ๐๐น ๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ต๐ฎ๐บ ๐ด๐ฎ๐๐ฒ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ฎ๐ป๐๐๐ฒ๐ฟ (24) ๐๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ ๐ฎ๐ด๐ผ: โvery exacting taste, plus the ability to gratify it.โ
The โabilityโ part is getting cheaper by the week.
Taste and agency are parts you cannot download.
In SaaS, this hits differently.
Because your job already lives in a browser.
So does the Stone.
๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ฑ๐๐ฐ๐: it becomes the Room of Requirement.
It drafts the PRD, writes the acceptance criteria, generates the edge cases you forgot, then politely asks if you want it in โcrispโ or โfounder ramble.โ
๐๐ป๐ด๐ถ๐ป๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ป๐ด: it becomes a Time-Turner.
It shrinks cycle time, then shrinks the number of humans required to hit that cycle time, then asks if you want to A/B test that too.
๐๐ฆ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ฆ๐๐ฝ๐ฝ๐ผ๐ฟ๐: it becomes a Howler.
It reads 2,000 tickets and yells, in all caps, โYOUR ONBOARDING IS THE BUG.โ
๐ฆ๐ฎ๐น๐ฒ๐ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ธ๐ฒ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด: it becomes a Polyjuice Potion.
Suddenly you have ten versions of you, all writing outreach, all doing research, all โpersonalizingโ at scale, all accidentally sounding like one extremely eager LinkedIn comment.
๐๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐น๐น๐ ๐ค๐๐ถ๐ฑ๐ฑ๐ถ๐๐ฐ๐ต, but with OKRs and fewer helmets.
Which means the differentiator moves.
When everyone can ship, the scarce part becomes choosing what to ship.
ย โข Taste.
ย โข Agency.
ย โข Decision-making under uncertainty.
An โAIโ tab in your navbar is adorable.
Like putting racing stripes on a minivan.
The real advantage is using the Stone to make better calls, learn faster, and ship before your competitors finish their alignment doc.
